Any suggestions?
The kids are musicians and would love to see some lively Irish music this month. We're in DC, but can drive out for somewhere with good food and music. But I'd like to avoid a total drunken bar filled w/university students

Check the Washington Post Going out guide. I believe if you search St Patrick's day festivities they list many places with Irish music.
At least one Irish pub in Great Falls seems to have music Friday - Sunday...I am sure the Irish pub near Glen Echo Park will have something. |
| Murphy's in Old Town is family friendly |
Well don’t go this weekend, but agree that Irish bars/ restaurants- maybe on the early side- are a good idea! |
The Irish bars won't be filled w/university students...but likely drunken patrons. I don't know...that's 1/2 the fun. We took our kids to plenty of Irish pubs around Ireland with music and dancing and inebriated patrons. Most drunken adults are not particularly rowdy. |

There is an Irish Music festival in Ashburn this weekend:

| I think the U2 thing in Vegas is over. |
| There is typically music at the Irish Inn at Glen Echo: https://irishinnglenecho.com/events/ |
| The Auld Shebeen in Old Town Fairfax has nightly Irish entertainment, and their menu has been extolled in Washingtonian Magazine. Highly recommended. |
| Old Brogue in Great Falls. |

Not much diversity there. |

Not true. Haven’t you ever heard of the Black Irish?
|
| If you go to an Irish bar with live music make sure ahead that the act is playing Irish music since that’s what after. Many Irish bars also hire groups that don’t play any Irish music at all. |
| And call to make sure DC can get in- after a certain time I couldn’t take DC in for dinner. |
