| Thinking of a trip to Williamsburg in mid-April during the week. Is it doable to take the train from DC and use public transit. In particular can you get to Busch gardens via transit bus reliably? The website mentions the bus but doesn’t give details. Anywhere else worth going to that is transit accessible? My understanding is colonial Williamsburg is walkable from the Amtrak station. Is it worth trying to bring or rent bikes? |
| Where would you stay? |
| Do you include UBERs as public transportation? |
Not really. |
The plan would be somewhere walkable from the Amtrak station. I did a training at the university about 10 years ago and walked from train station to hotel and hotel to university each day but did not do much beyond the training course. . . |
| It’s very tree lined highways. From my recollection, you could walk all over Colonial Williamsburg if your hotel was super close. But, you would need to drive to Busch Gardens and Water Country and pancake restaurants, etc. |
| We went there without a car. Flew from NYC, took an Uber from the airport, stayed in one of the Colonial Williamsburg hotels. It is ok if you only want to stick to the small area that is Colonial Williamsburg plus whatever is around W&M. But I don’t know how you’d venture outside of that. |

There’s a bus system in Williamsburg. Google and Rome2Rio show it if you search.
Drops you off right by the England parking lot, and the main entrance is right off that lot. Seems easy to me, you’d have to check on hours of the route. |
| Frequent visitor to Williamsburg here. No way you can do it without a car if you want to go to Busch Gardens. They have some buses but nobody rides them. It is America you need a car. |
| Campus and CW would work but not BG. |
| You will need to budget for Ubers. Williamsburg is a tiny area with little infrastructure |
And if you want to go to nearby restaurants or the Outlets or anything else offsite you'd have to Uber it. Do you have small kids in tow? It might just be easier and more cost (and time!) efficient to rent a car and drive. |

You can order a shuttle. |
Are you proud if the latter? I think it is crazy. |
| No, for me it’s a safety issue. When you’re on foot in DC, SF, Chicago, and NYC you’re vulnerable to random attacks. In many countries only the poor and most vulnerable walk or take public transit. Have you traveled much? |
