We plan to do a mini road trip 6/14 morning and be back on 6/16 around noon starting from montgomery county. It is so short, but we want to do something. Is it too cold or too crowded for ocean city? If yes, where could we go that is not too far away. Kids are 8 and 5. |
Do you mean too cold to swim in the ocean? Probably, but OC would be pretty busy with everything open and there're plenty to keep the kids occupied. |
ocean city maryland ? what .. no it is not too cold - we go Memorial day to labor day all the time and have 3 young kids , they aren't submerged in the ocean the entire day but run about and it is in season there at that time. |
It will be less crowded than July and August.
I've regularly swam in the ocean at OC in June. The water in OC will be warmer than the water in Delaware or NJ as you are further south. The water is a bit warmer in August but the ambient air is also hotter. You might also consider Assateague beaches (MD and/or VA). Both are also nice in June. |
Yes. |
It will be cold for swimming but your kids won’t care! It will not be too cold to sit on the beach and play in the sand, throw balls, put your feet in, etc. And some kids will swim ![]() Less crowds, too! |
Probably not but that’s prime senior week time so there will be lots of very drunk teenagers. I personally like ocean city. Stay at a place more central to middle island. Go mini golfing. Get a place with a pool. There are lots of places to eat on the water that have playgrounds for kids. |
Is not that for from the de beaches. It’s the same water. |
We were there last June around that time. Water was too cold for us but there were kids in. As for senior week, they are so spread out that I didn’t find them to be a nuisance. Uber bagels was crowded for breakfast. We played mini golf and didn’t have a wait. |
+1. Learn your currents. The Gulf Stream is going to be the same temperature. |
Rehoboth is nicer than OC, less rowdy drink teens/adults.
San me distance to drive. Water will be chilly but people swim from Memorial Day onwards so within the range of summer normal. Rehoboth also has a couple of nice shady playgrounds that are good for elem age kids if you want free activities as well. |
Water will be cold but the beach will be nice. I would try to rent a place with a pool.
Senior week starts to die down that week but there will still be plenty of teens there. Honestly, it wont matter because they aren't generally trying to do the same thing as little kids. The good thing is that getting into the nicer restaurants will be easy because they cant afford to eat at the better restaurants. |
Senior week is he week before that |
Clearly you haven’t been to rehoboth recently. That boardwalk at night is packed, and a very mixed crowd. I would avoid the OC boardwalk as well, but the rest of OC has stepped up over the years. More upscale crowds, great restaurants. Old DC struggles to see it. But give me the sunsets on the bay in OC over the traffic and crowds in Rehoboth any day. |
For every HS in the DC area? Senior week is all over the place for different schools but it really doesn’t matter since they don’t want to do the same things as families. |
