Dog smell and Dyson vacuum

Anonymous
My purple “pet” Dyson vacuum died after 15+ years.

I live in a condo with DH, DD, and our heavy shedding cat and dog duo. We got the V15 Detect stick vacuum for its small footprint and ease of use.

The functions are great and I can’t believe how much it sucks up, but it absolutely reeks! I’ve washed the filter, purchased a new filter, cleaned the canister to the extent possible, and wiped everything down. But the smell is deathly as soon as it turns on. While looking for help online, I’m seeing that my issue is a known one and reported many times over on many websites. I found a decent suggestion to put a dryer sheet in the canister. Which does seem to help, but definitely not perfect.

If you have one of these, does it smell? How have you gotten the stink out?

Yeah mine just smells, idk. I think if you don’t want the vacuum to smell you have to get one with bags.

Wow, 15 years with a Dyson stick. That's pretty good, OP!

I have the V15 as well but (so far) it doesn't reek. My V12 used to smell so I know what you're talking about. I didn't wash the filter as often as I should have in the beginning and the smell lingered. And I noticed the smell particularly if I vacuumed up anything wet - even a drop of water on the floor would make it smell like wet dog.
