We're looking for a good place for a week at the beach - ideal is a pet-friendly home rental right on the water, but we can be a little flexible. Last year we found a place we liked in Rehoboth, but a friend suggested Chincoteague for this. Has anyone been recently? Do you know if rentals are near the water or if you're in town and drive to the beach?
I stayed at the Hampton Inn last summer, not pet-friendly. There are probably house rentals on the Bay, but the ocean beach is a wildlife refuge with no development. You will need to bike or drive to the ocean beach.
You have to drive to the beach, and there is nothing there so you'll need to bring a cooler if you want to eat, drink. Chincoteague is very cute, and there are a lot of nice places to go (for putt putt, ice cream, etc). Bring insect repellent!
You can't take your pet to Assateague Island when you stay in Chincoteague. It's a national wildlife refuge. That said, we go every year and stay at the Refuge Inn and we love visiting there. Did you check VRBO (vacation rental by owner) for a house?
Thanks so much. And - yes there are some pet-friendly home rentals on vrbo - I was just trying to figure out if it would be a good place to stay for us. We're more used to a typical Rehoboth vacation where you can just walk to the beach and where there are tons of restaurants and some kid-friendly activities like Funland - am less sure what there is to do in Chincoteague and whether it's a pain to spend days at the beach (or for one of us to take our son to the beach while the other takes a break, etc.) Any more sense whether this is a good spot for someone who enjoys a basic lazy beach vacation?
Cape May would be a better option.
21:50 back. I think Chincoteague is a great place for a lazy beach vacation! Driving to the ocean is no biggie. It's a nice beach. Plus, if you get bored of the beach, you can climb the lighthouse, hike the trails, go horseback riding, ride bikes around, etc. Have fun if you go!
