Average income for a 44 year old lawyer

Average income for someone who is 44year old and been a lawyer for 10+ years. Saw a post on either Insta or Twitter saying she can't afford a $1800 one bedroom apartment. I was going to respond with a comment saying maybe you not good at your job....
But is it possible for a lawyer who has been practicing for 10 years in a high price one bed apartment not to afford it? I make 60k, and I am able to afford it..... so if the post is not fake is it just a bad lawyer?

She probably has a lot of law school debt.

10 years out of law schools I was making probably $120-130k as a fed attorney. I don’t think she’s a bad lawyer, just not in big law probably.

I hope the post appears again, I think it was troll post, but 120k is still enough to afford a 1bed room apartment. It way more than any teacher with BS degree with ever make as of today in FCPS. or maybe after 30+ years

Attorney salaries are all over the place from $30,000 yearly and up.

Don’t tell her she’s not good at her job because you don’t even know her.

+1. Many small firm lawyers don't make that much. Yes I know some do, but most dont.

Agreed. She might be great at her job, but horrible with money. This sounds less like a job issue and more like a money management issue.

There are lawyers from lower tier law schools who have a hard time finding a job and who are underemployed. Throw in student loans and they could be struggling.

She could work at a nonprofit and be making $25k or $45k.

I worked at a law firm right out of law school (which, by the way, was Yale) and then went to a nonprofit where I made $45k. I was very good at my job.

There is no bottom to how little you can make as a lawyer. There are way too many lawyers. Those fat starting salaries (currently $230Kish for a new grad) go to top graduates of top law schools.

There’s no quality control and a lot of third rate law schools out there and their grads don’t do much better than paralegals with a lot more debt. It’s a winner take all culture.

Law school debt doesn’t pay out unless you go big law, some kind of investing VC or a fortune 500 in- house job. 3 years of expense and lost income is a lot.

This! The salary is not necessary an indicator of how good one is at their job.

Representing the landlords or the tenants?

Salaries of attorneys do not reflect how "good" they are. It just reflects what specific field they work in, and can vary hugely from firm to firm. Just because someone in big law makes 500k/year doesn't mean someone making 60k a year at a small immigration law firm is a worse lawyer.
