Dune 1 & 2 - Mapping to Books?

| Newbie to the Dune universe here. I saw Dune 1 a couple weeks back and now have started to read the book. Loving it so far and pumped up for Dune 2. So, question is do Dune 1 & 2 movies together cover just Book 1? Anyone knows? |

Yes, the movie is just about half of the first Dune book. They are saying Villenueve is doing three dune movies— so they may continue on from there with new directors/imaginings.
It doesn’t seem like it’ll be quite exact movie to book translation with Part 2 though— there have been hints at some rearrangement of scenes (kind of like what LOTR did). |

However Villeneuve decides to do it, I hope they introduce the Guild Navigators at some point. They were the coolest and most unsettling character in the books... I remember being freaked out when I read Dune in HS. I cannot remember if the Navigators make an appearance in Dune the first novel; I know they're a big part of Dune Messiah.

The original Dune novel was three books in a sense. It’s long and layered.
Then, Frank Herbert wrote five sequels. His son wrote a lot more. The first movie of this series maps quite well to the first half of the original novel. Jessica gets more coverage as does Duncan Idaho. The Mentats get much less. The scene with the Bene Gessert reverend mother testing Paul happens earlier in the book than in the movie. |
