| DC had honors admit to OOS flagship with a high rating but regular admit to in state flagship. Cost difference is about 10K all in. Is honors worth 10k/year? |
| I don’t know about your finances, but $10k is not an amount that would be a consideration for us. I’d let my child choose the school they like the best regardless of honors status. |
| No; honors is not worth $40K over four years, all other things being equal. |
| Think it depends on what the in state option is. |
| Depends in the schools. |
| ^^on the schools. |
| Which schools? |
| UMD spring admit to OOS direct admit that I have never seen discussed on this page but is fully accredited. |
| At our state flagship, when my child applies, I'd suggest they only do honors for 1-2 years just to meet people but drop it because it has a lot of unhelpful reqs for them that would detract from their main focus. |
Bet your DC can't wait to get away |
nobody's playing twenty questions |
np. why the eyeroll? My kid is the same with the honors program. They are going to drop it next year. It's getting in the way of getting a double degree in 3 years (had lots of credits going in ). That was their decision, however. Agree with PPs, it depends on the school, the major and what exactly honors means in that school. What advantage do they get there? |
PP, why do you need a specific name? So you can criticize the school? Honors programs are similar between schools in terms of offerings. |
No, there are significant differences among them. |
None of which you can know years before the kid even applies |
