What would you put on BINGO cards. Share the phrases that make you roll your eyes or throw up in your mouth a little.
Administrator states...."I'm sorry but we don't do that!" (Said to a completely reasonable request. When you bring in an advocate, you find out that in fact they do do that and they must do that.) or another variation: "We only do that in extreme cases" (Said about a minor request. You happen to be a SN parent group and you know they do THAT often, but for parents who hired lawyers) "The TEAM feels/says/thinks..." Team member who disagrees with rest of team, but is afraid to speak up looks nauseous/uncomfortable/ill/anxious/confused/distracted/befuddled |
| Straight face: 15 minutes of OT per week is sufficient (8 yo receives multiple hours per week of private OT & cannot yet form all 26 letters of the alphabet never mind write a word/sentence) |
| "We don't have the budget for that" |
| “Your DC needs to self advocate.” (Meanwhile, the poor child lacks the executive functioning skills to know or think of advocating for themselves.) |
|
“We can’t meet the needs of your child in X school” referred to Y. “We can not meet the needs of child in Y school.”’ CIEP wait, and wait “How about Z school but there is a waitlist.” “Ok, what do we do between now and then?” “Have you tried X or Y schools?” “But we already got bumped from them cause they can’t meet child’s needs.”
“Oh, well they need to go there anyway…” |
I've gotten this one. |
A higher up tried to give me this one, but a teacher chimed in and said my kid self-advocates more than enough which was a euphemism for saying if you don't give the accommodations my kid will be a PITA just like mom .

I may have BINGO before the board is complete. Got this one too. |
| How about...someone on the team talks to you like you are ignorant and don't know your rights and have never read anything about your kid's disability. Or someone on the team thinks they know better than you do what your kid needs AND said person thinks she knows better than the top person you had evaluate your kid and write a report. |
| Making adequate progress towards goals. |
| Oh, that's not anxiety. It's just hormones. |
| We have no idea what is causing the meltdowns. Have gotten this more times than I can count. |
| "Nothing about your child stands out. So, no, we won't evaluate your child even though you provided us with private assessments indicating significant deficits impacting learning." |
| “Her scores indicate she is accessing the curriculum, so no further investigation or supports are recommended at this time.” |
| She's doing great and her test-scores are fine (on gen ed standardized tests) so we think (remove a service or service hours) |
