Looking for Bikram Yoga studio in MOCO

Anonymous
I’ve heard such great things about Bikram yoga would love some recommendations of a studio that folks like in Montgomery County, MD - we’re in Bethesda, but I’m willing to travel north. I feel really stiff and stressed. . I walk daily with our dog, approx. 200 steps daily, but I desperately need more- I’m 50 so don’t need anything where everyone is wearing the latest trendy outfits but more of a community that pushes you to be a better version of yourself. Thanks in advance !

Not Bikram but Soul Fire and Pure Fire are both in Bethesda and offer hot yoga. Also core power yoga.

You've heard great things about Bikrim Yoga? Clearly you did not research anything.

Bikram is over (just Google it), but there are plenty of hot yoga studios doing basically the same thing. I love it; it is basically the only yoga I can do well.

Look for hot yoga. Or Bikram-trained teachers. Most won’t call themselves “Bikram” studios because of the man himself, who is an absolute corrupt and abusive tool. But his yoga teachings were and are very solid.

It has come out that the Bikram practices were not totally safe. He pushed people beyond their limits and many former students/teachers are coming out and talking about their injuries. Many are not able to practice at all anymore which is terrible. I would not recommend for someone your age who is already experiencing stiffness.

If your first desire is heated, give Core Power Yoga C1 classes a try. Otherwise look for heated Astanga or Rocket Yoga a try.

There's been a Bikram studio off Shady Grove Road and 28 for close to 20 years - I think it's called Bikram Yoga Rockville. I took classes there years ago and the owner, Diana, was very good instructor. I have no idea about any of the current teachers. There was a studio in Bethesda, but it closed years ago. I think there's still on in Takoma Park - not sure about the former Bikram studio in Tenley, but it may still be open under another name. The instructors there were usually good.

Please watch the Bikram documentary and see if you still feel it's for you

Ditch Bikram, OP. Just no good.

Try Soulfire on Cordell. It is a fantastic community and a damn hard workout (you can hang in the back if you are nervous or just want to take it slow... no big deal whatsoever).
