Help. No shorts warm weather hiking?

Anonymous
So, my thighs and I are not at peace. After a rough year, I am sitting 10 lbs over where I'd like to be that will NOT come off, and as bonus fun, I'm getting spider veins. (Age 47). I can work around this most of the time, but we're planning active spring break and summer trips and I will absolutely roast in leggings, but I look awful in shorts right now. Any suggestions?

Lightweight hiking pants from REI. help with brush/ticks too.

But also, I'd try wearing shorts a few times. The sun and musculature will be good for how you feel about your legs.

Body/leg makeup.

Please just wear the shorts and be comfortable. 10 extra pounds doesn't look so awful you can't wear shorts, come on. And you can get the spider veins lasered off.

Unrelated to appearance, but even in the heat, I wear light weight hiking pants to protect my legs from getting cut up, mosquitos, etc.

I never wear shorts to hike in - bugs, scratches, sitting on hot rocks. I wear lightweight hiking pants for either LL Bean or REI. I like the cargo pants kind with a zillion pockets. There are also zip off ones, so you can bear your legs if you so choose!

I am an active not-young person with an extra 40 lbs on my body. I wear bathing suits, shorts, tank tops, whatever. If you don’t like my legs or arms you don’t have to look at me. I’m wearing what I like and doing what I like to do.

This. I tend to wear pants to protect against ticks etc. I like the Columbia hiking pants but whatever you like is fine. They have ones that zip off into shorts or even tie up into (gasp!) capris so you can change them up as needed.

No one is doing this while hiking. OP, just wear a skort. Look at the web site Title Nine.

I have a pair of Athleta nylon joggers I use for hiking. Same material as the REI/LL Bean suggestions but a more stylish cut.

Echo the prior comments, get hiking pants. I never hike in shorts even in summer

What? No.

Skort with bike shorts built in. The bike shorts will handle any chafing and the skirt part, if A line will provide whatever modesty you are looking for in terms of leg coverage. Look for 15 inch or more in the skirt.
I'm 5'8 and feel very well covered in this (from a prior year)https://athleta.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=6576830020003#pdp-page-content

OMG just wear what makes you comfortable. You’re going hiking, not sitting in the front row at Paris Fashion Week.
