Fancy dress for overweight teen

Anonymous
My 13 yo has a school dance coming up. A lot of the websites I see on here recommended for this age group only have standard sizes. Any recommendations for places to look that have a wider range (especially ones with a return policy that enables us to try multiple sizes!)?
Thanks!

Mom of two teen DDs. I had good luck at David’s Bridal. Just a note OP I always go bra and underwear aka “scaffolding” shopping with DDs to get things that specifically go under the dress they’ve chosen. Nordstrom is great for this- bring the dress with you. I also keep in mind a tailor may be necessary for dresses that almost but don’t quite fit. Usually for them it’s around the bosom.

Nordstom's returns are super easy and they carry a variety.

Lulu's has some in larger sizes. Here's a cute one, although it's final sale:

My 13 year old just ordered this one and it's a pretty cute basic black dress:

This one is also a cute basic dress, although looks like sold out in sizes above XL:

Neither one of those two is super short -- the long-legged models make them look shorter. I find the lulu's stuff surprisingly well-made for the price -- better than what we've found for more money at Macy's. The zippers are the weak point -- so make sure you take the time to zip carefully.

I've actually had some luck for my daughter at Macy's.

Universal standard might have a gorgeous dress DD could wear

Universal Standard does great high quality basics, but they do not make dresses that a teenager would want to wear to a dance. It's like where you shop before you go full on coastal grandmother and start wearing Eileen Fisher.

I'm not the OP but those dresses are adorable!

I have a 17 year old daughter who is on the heavier side of average. She can't wear the slip dresses that her 100 pound friends do.

It's probably obvious but she always wears dark dresses. A black dress can easily make her look 10 pounds thinner.

Reformation may have good options, but be careful as they have some definitely overly mature cuts for a 13 year old.

This is wayyyy too "old" and not really something a teen would want to wear.

Not fancy per se, but Forever21's website has a plus size section with dresses. Some of them look they could work for a tween.
