He's 77!! I felt like saying be glad he remembered you had one. He also took her out to dinner and took her kids for the night so she and her husband could go out.
I bit my tongue. |
| What did she want instead? My dad is 70 and I can’t imagine him trying to pick out a gift for me. I love my dad but it’s not his strength. |
|
She's fighting the realization that he's comparatively in decline. You did well to remind her he was getting on. |
| He also took her kids so she could go out to dinner! Geez! |
| My mom gives me one every year. It is the perfect gift. Much rather that than something I do not really want. |
What did she want? If she is morally opposed to Amazon or gift cards, I understand. Cash is a nicer gift. |
Is she a narcissist in general? |
you shouldn't have. sometimes people need a reality check from someone. |
| She sounds exhausting. |
I never understand the "I bit my tongue". Do people have such surfacy friendships that they can't tell someone that they are being silly and that her dad's birthday gift sounds great. |
| I'd be impressed if my parent did that. They haven't bought me a gift since I was a child, not even as a teen did I get birthday gifts. |
| lol! My dad gave me nothing for my birthday. I'll take her gift card! |

My parents haven't bought me birthday gifts since I was in high school.
If she can't think of anything to spend the Amazon card on, most animal rescues, food banks, and other charities usually have "wish lists" on Amazon and I'm sure they'd love it if she used the gift card to send them things. |
| My dad hasn’t bought me a bday gift in years. But he watches our kids on my birthday so my husband can go out for a nice meal in peace and that’s the best gift! |
