I never understand the "I bit my tongue". Do people have such surfacy friendships that they can't tell someone that they are being silly and that her dad's birthday gift sounds great.

I'd be impressed if my parent did that. They haven't bought me a gift since I was a child, not even as a teen did I get birthday gifts.

My parents haven't bought me birthday gifts since I was in high school.

If she can't think of anything to spend the Amazon card on, most animal rescues, food banks, and other charities usually have "wish lists" on Amazon and I'm sure they'd love it if she used the gift card to send them things.

My dad hasn’t bought me a bday gift in years. But he watches our kids on my birthday so my husband can go out for a nice meal in peace and that’s the best gift!
