Late 30s fed here in the IT/engineering field. I see a lot of posts about government contractors making $300k (base+bonus) or more.
Where are these jobs? Most of my friends and family are government contractors and they either make a little more than I do or less, I'm a capped 15 non-sup btw. Two family members work for CGI, make around $130-150k. These are senior level guys too - 15+ years of experience. Friend tried to recruit me to Deloitte. Salary offered was $180k. SAIC reached out to me last year and their max offer was $175k. With the pension benefits and WLB the fed offers, just doesn't seem worth it to jump into the private sector. |
| Senior directors w/20 yoe make about that. |
| Maybe in highly specialized engineering roles (if client-facing) - other than that, $300K+ is C-suite level pay for a mid-level firm, senior director level for a large firm, and owner level for an SB. |
| These dc salaries are a joke, most software engineers should be making 300k+ with stocks |

| Can you transition to a sale or business development role? There’s more value as someone who generates revenue. |
| you would get paid $300K if you are in a strong engineering field with managememt/PM experience. I have Phd in Chemical/materials engineering and a PM with DoD agency. I usually receive offers in $250-300K range. Deloitte offered to start me as Sr manager but not worth it. |
LOL! My nephew made more fresh out of college on the West coast. |
Personal anecdotes are always entertaining. |
Clueless posters like you are even more so. |
| I agree OP when I left government I didn’t jump salary much, and my benefits were better in government. I’m sure those jobs are out there but they’re very specialized and not the norm. |

| You need to do business development or serve as an account executive. That is where the bonus money comes in. I work in a policy role at a government contractor association and make $185K with my bonus. I’ve looked to work for one of my member companies and most of the BD jobs ranged in the $250 plus bonus. Most of the executives are making $500K plus. |
| Never heard of it |
