Fool Me Once - review with spoilers!

Just finished the series on Netflix and I have many comments and questions. This thread will include SPOILERS……

I was generally hooked and binged it to find out the killer etc.

The nanny cam - was Maya’s friend bribed by the in laws? How did the in laws know about it and why did they have on in their own house?

Why the side story about he half brother? Was that just to throw us off?

After the reveal at the end I looked back at Maya’s detective work… she really didn’t seem like she knew who killed Joe!

Did anyone also read the book and are there insights from the book that could help explain the series?

It was stupid.

I didn’t like twist. Why was she tracking down the nanny cam footage when she knew it couldn’t be true? So dumb.

Great questions.

And why didn’t the biker witness first see the guy try to shoot her three times? Wouldn’t that have cleared this up, or she knew she was done for.

Why was she tracking down anything.

Good point!

Also I found Joe unbelievable. Too evil.
I did, however, like the detective’s storyline and who I thought was his AA sponsor all along.

The author's plots usually involve a group of adults hiding a horrible childhood secret. I liked that aspect of the story. I found it believable.

How could Maya not know how easy it would be to do a deep fake?

She was tracking down the secret that her sister stumbled upon that would destroy her DH family business. She didn't know what Joe's motive was.

Maya was smart enough to find another way to do a big reveal on her in laws.

Why didn’t she live stream or at least record the mtg in the park with Joe.

She had to get her gun last since it had to be there in the display case when he got the hidden one. So when she went later she could have confirmed the hidden one was missing and it was Game On. Record everything. Voice and video.

Yes. A helicopter pilot like Maya would not be confused about nanny cams, deep fakes, and live stream.

I really thought that in the closing scene in the hospital room with the detective, uncle and Lily, that Maya would suddenly walk into the room - because the detective kept saying "I helped her", so naturally I thought 'oh...so he helped Maya fake her own death...' I was disappointed that didn't happen. Overall I enjoyed it, but I also try to not microanalyze movies and shows otherwise it ruins it for me.

Agree.

Just had an Oh Well feeling at the end. I guess she thought she was doomed so give the bad guys your loaded gun.

Why not track that secret down before killing Joe? Wouldn’t a life of shame, financial downfall, and jail time for Joe be a better outcome for Maya, considering she’d be alive to enjoy his suffering?

I didnt get the storyline with the half brother. There was absolutely no follow up. We didn't even get to see him meeting with his father. I don't think it was in the book either.

I was okay with the ending. She was never going to get over what happened overseas and accepted if that her fate.

I guess with the nanny camera, you could say she was scared that Joe was actually somehow and faked his death.

Loved the cop's storyline!!! I cried at the reveal with his ex like the baby I am.
