| If you are a 4th grader, will RSM place you only in the 4th grade classes(accelerated, advanced or honors) or can you be placed in a 5th grade class too? |
| You could be placed in 10th if you that good |
| You can be placed in higher grades if your student passes those assessments. They look for perfect scores in order to move ahead. DS had 2 questions wrong out of 20 so they did not move him into Algebra from Pre Algebra. He was moved from 4th grade Honors into 5th grade Advanced when he was in 4th grade. |
So your DS was moved during the school year when he was already in 4th grade honors? |
Yes. But not from 6th Grade honors. My point is that RSM will look at moving kids if it is needed but it is not a guarantee. They might see that a child is not challenged at a level but determine that they are not quite ready for the next level. Some kids are in between levels, which is tough. Either they are not challenged in their current level or over their heads at the next level. I would also recommend looking into the math competition class at RSM, DS loves that class. It is challenging and far more interesting to my child then the regular math class. |
| My kid started RSM 3rd grade honor. In 4th grade, we started as 4th honor. Then moved to 5th advanced then again moved to 5th honor. All happens in 4th grade. |
| I have a second grader in 3rd grade honors. In first grade she was in second grade honors. I think the placement is based on abilities and not the day school grade |
| Yes they will do an evaluation and place child I in the class they believe will be best for the child. That is usually one of the three grade-level classes, but we know several people placed above. Just realize that this can be socially awkward, which for most kids is fine given that it is an extracurricular course. However, we know someone with a very bright child placed a grade above who felt they were better served socially with the on-grade honors class and chose to move down. I think they were not clicking with the older students. |
Not worried about social aspect for enrichment class. My kid is taking one grade above class at RSM and classmate did not know whether my kid is younger than or not. Vice versa. Kids did not seem to care about that. |
| My kid is in 4th grade and does 5th grade honors rsm. It’s totally fine to put them a grade ahead |
|
Can you be move down from 6th grade Honors if you don't do very well on tests or quizzes but complete homework easily, with scores above 100 and demonstrate skills in class?
|
| So in other words every student is placed ahead a grade or two. |
