Why is everyone here so rich

Anonymous
On most forums about money, you see very few people make more than 250k individually or even HHI, yet here every thread has someone making 750k or higher at just one job. Also many people here with 8 figure NW’s or act like 5-10M is “barely enough”. According to this calculator 300k/yr at age 40 is 97th percentile https://dqydj.com/income-percentile-by-age-calculator/, I guess that doesn’t account for location but still.

Makes me feel like I’m doing something wrong with wanting to have a SAHM on my single 300k income.

Voluntary response bias.

High earners are far more likely to share what they make than low earners. $300k is way more than enough to raise a family so long as you are a reasonable person.

Probably just how the board developed. Once it started that way it stayed, people with high incomes now respond.

Rich have to find places to talk rich too 🤑

Why?

Because this a predominantly DMV metro area forum. Politics and politic-adjacent jobs pay well. Especially in arguably the most powerful metro in the entire world.

The wealthy stay wealthy by keeping the powerful close.

You can absolutely have one parent be SAH on a single 300k income. And live quite comfortably. Don’t fall into the trap of keeping up with the Joneses. These people will multimillion NW who don’t think they have enough or don’t feel secure or think they’re middleclass are the people who cause so much disdain for the top 10% from the rest of us.

They live in an incomprehensible bubble.

Don’t be them, OP.

However, I think a more important question to ask (especially if you’re living in the DMV) is does the spouse who’d be staying at home want to give up their career? A lot of Type-A personalities who the area attracts, don’t want to.

You can tell a lot of times that the person is lying. They aren’t all accurate. I never write my income because there’s never a reason to. And also I’m not rich so not everyone is rich.

I think you're rich and you're lying.

I don’t live in or near DC. In another part of the country. Found this site simply by googling questions that a wealthy person would ask. Found answers here and my fellow high earners. Haven’t found another place on the internet like it. There’s still snark but enough commiseration that I find it valuable.

Anonymous responses about money are almost always lies. Don’t be dumb.

Well I only make $250K individually so you can talk to me.

+1
Other message boards have sob stories and grifters. Every other thread was a plea for money. No thanks.

People say HHI, that’s not salary. If you have a high enough salary and/or inherited wealth your HHI should be way more than your w2s.
