To be fair, it's on brand -- Barbara Walters used that filter that looked like freaking Vaseline for years. On a prior thread about this show I noted that Aniston's fillers/Botox/other work are not distracting for me in this role because I 100% believe her character would be doing exactly the same thing at this stage in her career.
Also the Julianna Margulies character does not get the soft filter (and also she clearly hasn't had a bunch of work done) and I feel like this is somewhat intentional on the show's part, because her character is supposed to be a "serious journalist" whereas Aniston's character is supposed to be a morning show lightweight, and then Witherspoon's character is supposed to land somewhere in between. So Aniston's character is always soft-focus and taut skin, and Margulies is wrinkles and harsh lighting, and Witherspoon goes back and forth (even her hair has changed color).
