If you are 300-400 HHI, family of 3-5, how much do you spend on vacations every year? |
We spend about $15-20k per year on travel for a family of 3. |
I don't track. This year we took a 4 day weekend every federal holiday but mostly local travel. We went to the Caribbean for spring break (used points to fly), we went to Hawaii (that was super expensive), we went on a summer vacation to a Mountain area out of the country, also there was another activity trip for one of the kids. |
We are a family of 5 with that income range. I started using YNAB this year and I set a travel budget of $15K/year, and that is a reduction from prior years.
That said - my real budget is $15K for family vacations, $5K for visiting family (my ILs live in Miami but we have to fly there and they don't have room for us to stay with them), and $1K for an annual girls wknd. Just due to when I started YNAB, my vacation budget "year" is May 1, 2023 to April 30, 2024. We have some big trips planned in 2025, and I may try to save during my next travel year for that. We will see what actually happens though!!!! |
Family of 3, hi $500k, usually spend $25k on vacations each year. Which usually includes one high end trip to Europe and a cruise. |
We’ve been lucky the past few years having access to very nice family vacation homes so it’s just airfare plus groceries and miscellaneous stuff. This coming spring we are going to Paris for a week but six of us are flying for $4200 with an Airbnb for about the same. I’m sure the total will be at least $12k. |
HHI $600k and family of 5. Last year we spent $10,000 on spring break and $10,000 on a parents only trip to Europe. That doesn’t include family trips over winter and summer to visit family in other states. So probably $25,000 all in last year. Maybe a bit more. |
The past few years between COVID and having two kids (now 20 months and newborn), we haven’t spent much — maybe $2-4K for driving trips. Prior to kids/2020, we spend $10-20K annually and I envision getting back to that budget once they are a bit older. |
$400k family of 4. Probably about $15k but we also play the points and miles game so end up with a lot more than that in travel value. |
I don’t think HHI is the greatest determinant of travel budget. We have a large travel budget ($40k) but we own a smaller home with a lower mortgage, send our kids to public school, and drive older cars. |
In a typical year, probably around $10k spread out across a few long weekends and one week-long trip. Every 2-3 years we upgrade the week-long trip to a bigger vacation, the last couple have been around $10-15k for that trip, so maybe $15-20k total for the year. |
Between 10-20k |
Whatever the place we want to stay is. Beach is usually $6k for 4 nights, but could be $12k for a week, a week in Florida or Caribbean $15-$20k. Random weekends for sports probably another $5k. |
There is a big difference between a family of 3 vs. family of 5 in terms of vacation costs.
We are a family of 5 with HHI just above the range. We spend about $35, includes 2 big vacation trips, 1 trip to visit family, and either a couples trip or a girls trip (DH’s friends never plan guys trip even though the talk about it every year.) |
Zero. |
