Anyone out there tried Mightier or any of the other emotional regulation teaching online programs out there. My 1st grader is young for their grade and still struggles with some impulsive behavior as well as externalizing behavior like knocking things over and hitting when frustrated or upset. Their teacher has been phenomenal working with them to build their emotional regulation and we have done a lot of reading of social stories and emotion books (like the little spot series) together at home. Curious if any of the paid programs Facebook advertises to me would possibly help supplement our work. I’m not opposed to screentime for a program but would only want to add screentime for it if it was really worth it. |
None of these didactic programs for kids actually work. They’re just after your money. What works is an evidence-based parent training program like PCIT. |
My child has definitely benefited from being taught breathing strategies and other regulation tricks. Not saying the online programs work (I have no experience with them) but is there really support for the statement that directly teaching kids about emotions, regulation techniques, and strategies don’t work? |
I think the key is kids actually wanting to do them instead of viewing them as homework (which could backfire and form negative associations). When I was a kid, Hooked on Phonics and Muzzy did blanket advertising claiming miraculous gains in reading and foreign language learning. But no kid I knew liked doing those lessons.
I have never not regretted a purchase I made from a social media ad, fwiw. |
You would be better off getting an appointment with a developmental pediatrician to see if ADHD is a factor. All of these “programs” are just snake oil. |
