Our ASD+ADHD son is 11, in 6th grade, scores high school level in reading, but scores 2nd-3rd grade level in math. Has an IEP and just got a dyscalculia diagnosis in last year’s neuropsych report, which of course the school doesn’t care much about, but the SPED teacher did ask me if we have any thoughts about which math curriculum to use for remediation in his direct instruction time.
Anything you’ve seen really work for dyscalculia? |
| Does he know all of his math facts? |
Yes, but slowly. |
| I always thought it’s the methodology that helps, not necessarily a curriculum. For curriculum, I’ve heard of both Math u see and Jump Math being used. Methodology would be Woodin Math. I actually think it’s amazing that you are being asked that question by a school based member. |

This is a first-of-it’s-kind math program being used for dyscalculia in some schools in West Virginia. I don’t have personal experience with it but wish something like this existed for my dyscalculic child when they were in elementary school.
