High contrast cards for babies - what’s the point?

Anonymous
Why is everyone using high contrast cards for their babies? What do they do? Is there any scientific evidence that it’s good for their brain development?

They’re mostly just bored, this is harmless, don’t sweat it.

There is a moment in infant development when their eyesight is only able to discern high contrast visuals. It passes quickly, and I don't believe brain development is hurt by not providing high-contrast visuals during that period.

Parental smugness.

My newborn liked it. It was a fun thing for my parents to do while they held my newborn so I could have a break. They liked watching his eyes, it was cute

LOL. I thought this trend died with Baby Einstein. Those toys were always so garish because they included bright primaries as well as high contrast b&w in their design.

Not necessary.

Eyes will develop anyway.

Do it if you want to watch your baby look at cards.
