schools similar to McLean School?

Other than Lab, are there other schools out there similar to what McLean School offers/who they are good for? Looking for middle school for child with severe ADHD and dyslexia, which rules out Siena. Thanks!

Severe ADHD rules out Siena. They old take mild/invisible cases.

The answer to the OP is Lab School. They are a bullseye for that profile.

What specifically about Mclean do you like? Some people consider it to be special ed "lite" without more intensive supports. If that's what you're looking for, some more nurturing privates may be a good fit. If you're looking for more special education supports, rather than accommodations and nurturing environment, then not. If ADHD is the primary concern, maybe Commonwealth? I'm not familiar with their academic supports though.

OP here- we are currently at McLean. Like it alot- but thinking it might be "too light" for us and want to be aware of other options.

If McLean isn’t enough, you need public with a very strong IEP. You won’t like the more intensive options like KTS or Ivymount. You should be doing intensive OG tutoring for the dyslexia.

Newton has kids like that depending on the severity of both the ADHD and Dyslexia. It’s far west but they have buses from Arlington and Falls Church. Definitely worth a look.

We have a similar kid and tried a few different options. This is the best option.

Op this is the unicorn all of us with kids with these issues who don’t have ASD and are somewhat typical socially seek. It does not exist. If your child can’t handle McLean there is nothing similarly positioned that will handle behavior. You have to do public. Or maybe a small catholic but know that it would not offer any actual accommodations. You’d have to supplement heavily.

DD goes to public with a strong IEP and self-contained classes. Best of both worlds - the individual attention she needs but with all of the activities in a large public high school.

Same profile for my two kids. I homeschool now. It's not for everyone, but it was the only option Thayer worked for us. We love it, even though I never could have imagined doing this. Was big law attorney prior to this. It's hard to find the right place. All the options have been given by PPs. It might be far, but Commonwealth would be a good fit. Newton stops at 8th.
