Kid has 4.2 and 35 ACT. Very limited ECs. Looking for SLAC with supportive community and mellow vibe.
Bard Vassar Union Franklin and Marshall Kenyon Bucknell Lafayette Lehigh Haverford UMD (as a local option) Is this a varied enough list? |
| For a local option, why not add SMCM? Seems like a more SLAC-like environment than UMD, and based on some of the others on your list, your kid wouldn’t rule out a campus without a walkable town nearby (as mine did, otherwise our list would’ve looked similar). |
| You don’t have enough safeties. For small liberal arts colleges extracurricular activities are more important. The college needs to ensure that it assembles an active and engaged class. |
|
Wooster as a safety?
|
What safeties would you add? |
| Can someone name some safeties. |
| Goucher |
| Maybe Pitzer |
|
Potential safeties:
College of Wooster Juniata College Knox College Lawrence University Lewis & Clark College Muhlenberg College St. Olaf College |
Not to be neurotic, but if kid's scores and GPA are really high, will safeties sniff out that they are safeties and candidate is unlikely to attend - and therefore reject? |
Most safeties are not yield protecting. If schools yield protect, they aren't safeties. Here are some schools that might yield protect: https://blog.collegevine.com/what-is-yield-protection-tufts-syndrome |
| It’s a strange list. A kid that finds their people at Haverford or Kenyon is not going to be the same kid that likes Lehigh. Have you visited these schools yet op? |
Was going to post this. Perhaps Muhlenberg as well. |
Kid certainly prefers Kenyon and Haverford to Lehigh and Bucknell, but trying to have a long enough list. Have visited all schools. |
| Have you considered SMCM or UMW as safeties? Both are smaller public schools and strong in liberal arts. |
