Anyone else watch it?
I did. Binged the whole series last night. It’s received mixed reviews, but I enjoyed it…except…why didn’t they cast French actors in a WW2 flick set in France??? Weird. |
I read the book a couple years ago so I am planning to watch! |
I watched the first episode and was underwhelmed despite liking a lot of the actors. I think I might just read the book first. I read and loved Cloud Cuckooland but hadn't gotten to this one yet. |
I checked out the book when it was hot but I couldn’t commit to it as I was depressed and not reading effectively. I think I need to check it out again and read it instead of watching this series - first I can’t think how they’d condensed a book that big into only four episodes when so many of these shows are 6, 8, 10 episodes from much slimmer source material. Also I’ve seen a few reviews that were very negative so I don’t want to ruin the book by watching an inferior adaptation first. |
I read the book when it came out and found it to be beautiful but really sad and lonely feeling. I don’t know if I’ll watch the show with such mixed reviews. |
I loved the book when it came out. Just binged the series last night and found it engaging enough but pretty shmaltzy. The main character in the book is a blind teen girl and they casted a blind girl for the series. Unfortunately, she’s never acted before and it shows - she was pretty cringe but the rest of the cast is pretty good, especially the guy who played the young Nazi radio operator, and the series is entertaining enough. Some pretty major departures from the book though. |
I loved the book, but have no plans to watch the series — I think even Poeple Magazine gave it marginal reviews? (Or some other magazine). |
I've only watched the first episode but I think the main actress is really good! |
What is more important and actually a big deal is that the main character who plays a blind girl is actually blind IRL. She had never acted before. |
I watched the show and enjoyed it, but didn’t love it. I have a lot of travel the next 2 weeks and am thinking of getting the audiobook to see (hear) what I missed. |
I loved the book and thought the show was pretty good for a Netflix show. I didn’t like the ending though. They did a fairly good job condensing it into 4 episodes. |
Wait, do I have to pay for Netflix again just to watch this? I loved this book so much. So much.
I need those of you that also loved the book to tell me if it's worth the Netflix subscription to watch the series. |
I loved it, just finished it last night. Haven't read the book, but if I had, I'm sure I would have issues with the series. I feel like that's just how it is with book adaptations! The lead was amazing, very well cast. |
I listened to the book a year or so ago and loved it. Not sure if I remember the details well enough to identify minor departures in the show, and I expect those anyway - there were so many threads in the book! One of the things I loved about it.
I watched the first episode last night and I thought it was well done - script, performances, production were all more than I expected. I don’t usually like TV but I’ll probably watch the rest of the limited series. |
I loved the book, but it made me bawl. I don't know if I want to put myself through it. |
