| Seeking advice! My son is 10 years going to middle school next year, he is in mainstream with IEP 5th grade. We have had some really bad experience with McPS I am trying to decide where he go for middle school, I think public school is falling our kid, however I had hesitation because of his IEP, staying with MCPS means there is IDEA protection. Any thoughts on private vs public for kids with learning difference? Any suggestion for private school, we live in Bethesda. Thanks! |
| What support does your child need? |

really just some regular accommodation like front seating, verbal reminder, alternative ways to demonstrate learning. He can get upset easily but that has improved over the years. |
| Generally, a kid only gets an IEP, rather than a 504, if they need more than just those basic accommodations. Can you say what qualifies him for the IEP because that would help people give helpful advice. |
| Middle and HS are very different than ES and you might find that your child needs even more support and services. And you will be under a new principal and special Ed team. So you might want to find out about special Ed in your MS as well. |
Preferential seating and reminders can happen at almost any school, alternative ways to demonstrate learning will be much harder, including in public if you stay on diploma track. How does he demonstrate learning now? |
