Winter barn wedding - what to wear?

Anonymous
Happy to do rent the runway or buy, but nothing too too $$

For reference - I’m 5’11”, heavier than I’ve ever been (size 14), mid-fifties.

The invitation said bring your fur stole and cowboy boots… neither of which I have, haha.

love this bride, want to look right!

Any links that could point me in the right direction?

I would dress for comfort. I get cold easily, and then I'm miserable.

I would focus on color here: olive, burgundy, or even brown, and then punch it up with something glamorous like a red lip, bigger gold jewelry, or midi-length satin. Wear with tall boots.

What is the heating situation going to be like inside the barn? If it’s going to be cold I would add a wool cape of some sort, longer if possible for your height:

I feel like a barn wedding would be a perfect setting for maybe a floral maxi that is on trend now, add a nice shoe, bag, jewlery and maybe a fancier wrap? A couple prior dresses seemed very formal for a more rural/barn setting to me, just my opinion.

Are they saying that the venue will be cold - or were they trying to be funny?

Trying to be funny, but also it’s a barn so it’s not going to be as temperature controlled as a regular venue. “Wedding attire: Winter cocktail“

I agree that some of previous choices seemed too fancy. What shoes would I wear with a floral maxi dress? Def looking for sleeves of some kind, I think.

I'd wear a cashmere cowl neck maxi dress with tall boots and very warm leggings and shirt underneath, plus a very warm coat and hat and gloves and a scarf. Maybe a faux fur muff!

Could pair with heels, shawl and sparkly jewelry if you want to dress it up, or ankle boots and a cardigan if you want to keep it casual.

Ankle boots or booties.

I was recently at a wedding reception in a barn (in October) and it was freezing. With whatever dress you wear, I would urge you to wear boots and tights. And bring a sweater or something.
