Private schools for kids with learning disabilities?

Anonymous
Curious as to which DC privates are nurturing environments for kids with mild learning disabilities (mild adhd, executive functioning, math)? Looking for 3rd grade start?

Commonwealth in NoVA or McLean in Potomac for that profile.

Oh, and you need to move this to the Special Needs forum. They will give you more help than this forum.

NO. Not at all appropriate for the student the OP described. Siena is only for language-based learning differences. Do not equate "SN school" with "appropriate for every student with SNs" please.

Depending on the amount of support you need, most schools will accommodate mild ADHD and/or executive function. Just reach out and ask admissions.

It also doesn't start until 4th grade.

If it is mild and your kid just needs a simple accommodation like extra time, then any private will work.

Siena VA campus starts at 3rd grade, and Silver Spring campus is opening 3rd grade for 2024-2025

McLean could be a good option, although it may be overkill depending on how much academic support your kid needs.

My ADHD son has done very well at McLean. It has sports every day, flexible seating, teachers include mindfulness in the classroom, and it has a small ratio to help keep kids focused productively. For us, it has been a very good school and fit.

If mild, most privates can accommodate—look for those with learning centers vs just one learning specialist. Flint Hill might be a good option.
