| Curious as to which DC privates are nurturing environments for kids with mild learning disabilities (mild adhd, executive functioning, math)? Looking for 3rd grade start? |
| Commonwealth in NoVA or McLean in Potomac for that profile. |
| Oh, and you need to move this to the Special Needs forum. They will give you more help than this forum. |
Thank you! |
| Siena School in Silver Spring - close enough to DC. |
| Fusion Academy in Tysons. |
NO. Not at all appropriate for the student the OP described. Siena is only for language-based learning differences. Do not equate "SN school" with "appropriate for every student with SNs" please. |
| Depending on the amount of support you need, most schools will accommodate mild ADHD and/or executive function. Just reach out and ask admissions. |
It also doesn't start until 4th grade. |
If it is mild and your kid just needs a simple accommodation like extra time, then any private will work. |
Siena VA campus starts at 3rd grade, and Silver Spring campus is opening 3rd grade for 2024-2025 |
| McLean could be a good option, although it may be overkill depending on how much academic support your kid needs. |
Siena is for kids with dyslexia. |
My ADHD son has done very well at McLean. It has sports every day, flexible seating, teachers include mindfulness in the classroom, and it has a small ratio to help keep kids focused productively. For us, it has been a very good school and fit. |
| If mild, most privates can accommodate—look for those with learning centers vs just one learning specialist. Flint Hill might be a good option. |
