| DC's lightspeed report showed 0 internet use at school for the week just passed. But my 2nd grade talked about playing learning games at school everyday. DC mentioned playing ST math, Reflex, Myon, Lexia. My Lightspeed account was opened last semester and was working as expected. Why didn't it report DC's school internet use accurately? |
| I got one already. Why can't FCPS use a program that actually limits usage rather than the lightspeed reports? Go Guardian sounds much more helpful to a school system. |
| Why can’t FCPS just ditch the laptops and go back to paper and pencil? |
Because it is 2023, not 1950. There needs to be a balance of both. |
| Yes. I got it all summer. It’s always been correct |
As the kids get Older ok in k-5 I would argue they focus on typing rather than using a computer for work. Tons of research about how handwriting notes helps you remember things better. Also it helps with phonics in the younger grades because the hand and speech are connected in the brain. |
| Yes, for all three kids (and it reflected a bunch of use by the two kids who had been given laptops, and no use by the one who hadn't received his laptop yet). |
K-2 grade yes. Computer usage should start in 3rd but with a balanced approach so when the get to upper ES and middle school they know how to use them. 5th and 6th should use computers more than 3-4 and primary grades. |
What did it say they were used for? |
Except education still does not understand how to employ technology. It is still mostly a gimmick. Look they are using computers, yet the computer usage has not improved scores, has reinforced dopamine rush by gamifying math (for example), etc |
I am PP, I don’t believe in excessive use expectations for games. But kids need to know how to type, put together presentations and use the internet for research. |
