Labeling school supplies

Anonymous
My kid’s elementary school requires that every school supply, explicitly including every individual marker and pencil, be marked with her name. Can those of you who are/were teachers explain the reasoning? I can’t imagine a teacher actually checking the name on every stray crayon or marker that winds up on the floor. And why label paper towels, tissues, and other things that will be pooled?

Not complaining, just genuinely curious.

I will when you explain why you think you have the right to nitpick how another professional organizes her workspace. I say her because I can’t think of a predominantly male profession where people are this condescending and assume they know better.

Asking a question constitutes nitpicking? I hope you’re not a teacher.

In my kids MCPS elementary school most supplies were pooled so no, there was not a lot of labeling required.

?? Just because you can’t imagine something doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen???

Every marker and pencil? I have no idea why. I’ve never heard of anyone requiring that.

What county OP?

I label stuff like lunchbox, outerwear, etc but not individual supplies. We are mcps.
I wouldn’t do it personally.

Same in FCPS. During open house, everyone takes their supply box and fills up the classroom supplies

I’ve had requests to NOT label. Certainly never been asked to label everything individually. Are you sure you read the instructions correctly?

Too many Karen moms complained that they didn't get their kid's stuff back at the end of the year so....

I've never seen this. I write names on the outside of the boxes and folders. That's it.
