| Has anyone used a female ride share app like Uber but with only female drivers? If so can you share the name - I’m located in NOVA |
This may be a stupid question, but can they legally do that? |
What are you talking about? Why on earth would it be illegal? It’s for safety FFS! |

This lady lives somewhere near me (near enough that I saw her post on Nextdoor, at least) and just celebrated I want to say a second anniversary in business? |
Sex discrimination. |
\ np Boo hooo to all the men I love it when my lyft driver is a woman and I wish I could guarantee it that every time! Especially when I am by myself |
It doesn’t work that way. |
| So the app company only hires females? How is that not disciminatory? What's next, hiring only those of a certain race? |
Why not? Be specific. |
Relax. 😀 |
It should be permitted when it benefits women. |
| There is something called a Bona Fied Occupational Qualification (BFOQ) which allows employers to discriminate for specific reasons. For example, Catholic schools are allowed to require that their teachers be Catholic as it’s considered a BFOQ. I’m not sure about these companies referenced in this post as I’ve never heard of them before but just wanted to shared that sometimes employers are able to legally discriminate. |
Why? A strip club only hires female dancers. Is that discrimination? How does Hooters manage to only hire waitresses? If this is allowed, the rideshare app could do the same. |
| I think you can choose gender on Empower. |
Hooters actually settled a sex discrimination lawsuit over this. |
