NVTBL doesn’t make 14u kids swing BBCOR, which from my understanding, is fairly unusual. Our coach isn’t requiring kids swing it either, unless obviously at a tournament that does mandate it.
My kid currently has -5 and BBCOR as 13u, but only sometimes practices with the latter. He needs to size up in length, so I’m not sure if I should get him another -5 or if he should just get one longer BBCOR and be done with USSSA. Any thoughts? I don’t know if most 14u in NVTBL use USSSA or just go to BBCOR. |

Just go to BBCOR now.

If he’s average size or bigger switch now.
If he’s undersized I’d stick with -5 for the fall and crush the weights over the winter. You don’t want to mess up a good swing if it’s too heavy right now. Then, BBCOR in the spring. |
| Unless super tiny, just switch to BBCOR. There may be an adjustment period. My tiny 14U DS (105 lbs) swings a BBCOR just fine- but the first few months with it were ROUGH. |
