DCI-French or Spanish

Anonymous
Which do people think is the "stronger" program? If we can select either language track (DC has experience with both) which would DCUM suggest?

You can't select, unless you get into one and then another in the lottery. It's separate lotteries, not one lottery and then you get to choose.

Personally I'd suggest Spanish track because there are way more kids in it.

Spanish is a no-brainer if you can get it. Your DC will actually use it.

If your child isn't already in a feeder school for elementary, then your odds of starting at DCI in 6th grade are better for French then for Spanish. That's nothing to do with the strength of either program, but because there are fewer schools with feeder preference sending French students to DCI than there are schools with feeder preference sending Spanish students. I can think of 2 or 3 kids who were at my kids' non-language (so nonfeeder) school in elementary who then started DCI French program in 6th grade.

I would be very surprised if your kid gets into the Spanish track, which is considered stronger. Try for the French.

+1. No way OP has any chance for Spanish since feeders expanded.
