When my son was born he had difficulty gaining weight and with Kaiser insurance we were allowed to borrow a hospital grade pump for 6 weeks (for free).
Trying to research for a friend whose baby was just born and is on a feeding tube if Blue Cross Blue Shield Federal Employee program would allow the same. If so, what would be the process to get it? Thanks in advance. |
| Call your plan and ask for a prior authorization. If they push back discuss with your child’s doctor what paperwork is needed. |
| They will not pay for a rental pump just because. It will take a phone call to them to ask for this specific situation, and the answer may be that they steer her to the free pumps they offer. |
| Not routinely, but maybe in this circumstance. They offered Spectra to everyone when I had my kid though and it was nearly hospital grade. |
The BCBS FEP Basic plan does not offer Spectra. I'm not sure about the FEP Standard. |
| This is a question for BCBS FEP. Also, the hospital should be able to prescribe it. |
