Wood Acres ES - Teachers happy?

Anonymous
Hi Parents, for those of you with kids at WAES, do you think that the teachers are happy / engaged? I’m reading a lot about MCPS teacher exodus/unhappiness, and just want to get a sense of how things are at WAES.

Have 2 kids at WAES and teachers have all been enthusiastic, warm, and responsive so far.

Woodacres is a terrific school with a loving community. They just lost a long time principal who was an institution and that always causes some staffing turn over but the new has gotten high marks.

Only thing really different this year was Adventure Theater from Glen Echo didn’t direct and host the school play after many decades of doing so. That apparently was the result of an almost total collapse of the AT leadership team and not the school but where there is a will there should be a way. I know the PTA would have jumped in if needed.

The planetarium curriculum had a resounding years as the only school in the county with one

It is by far the best elementary school in the Greater DC Area, and the best area to live in.

Note: it feeds into Pyle and Whitman... All excellent.

Yes - since the 1970s I think.

If you’re going cheat and lie, use those to get a better school than anything in the DCC.

I was enthusiastic, warm and responsive towards parents all the while hating my school. The only people who can really tell you if staff are happy or not is staff. Parents don't really know.

I agree. Parents don’t know unless they are often volunteering in the school and getting to know the staff. Since the principal change I notice several teachers and other employees have left the school including the AP which I found to be very odd.

Wood acres has been an excellent experience for my children and we have had wonderful teachers. They seem happy. I don't have a clear sense of the impact of the new principal.

Since the 1980s. Before that, it was at Brookmont ES (which MCPS closed).
