Question about confession for Catholic SAHPs

Anonymous
How do you manage attending confession if you have small children in tow? The only time I’m not solo responsible for childcare are late evenings and Sundays, when confession is not available. I’d like to make it a regular habit again, but the logistics are daunting, as my kids are too young to wait in the pews while I’m in the confessional.

Can you trade off with another Catholic SAHM?

You can call your parish and make an appointment for 1:1 confession. It will be face to face though typically.

Or you could go together and watch each other's kids in the pews while the other was in the confessional.

I got some regular childcare so I could do things like that or go to the dentist or the doctor or grocery shop alone. I was jealous of my friends with local family and realized I needed help.

If you always have children in tow, you probably don’t have that much to confess! 😄

Where are you posting from? There are like 5 Catholic churches in a 3 mile radius here in Fairfax/Burke/Springfield and all of them have various confession times.

Look up other nearby parishes and see if any of them fit your schedule.

Most offer Saturdays at 3pm . Your husband isn't home on a Saturday?

Worst case, hire a sitter for an hour.

If your kids are babies....just bring them with you to confession. The priest won't mind you having them with you.

If your kids are older and can understand what is said and you don't want them there during it, just call your parish office and tell them the issue. I guarantee you they will find a solution like some grandmotherly type who goes to confession every week who can watch your kids in the pews during your confession.
