She also liked The Indian in the Cupboard series and Faceless. Any recommendations? Particularly interested in female-centered stories, but any great reads would be welcome. |

As the Waltz Was Ending was one of my favorite books as a kid. It’s a memoir of a young ballerina during WWII. There is a sexual assault scene, so you may not be comfortable with that yet, but it’s not terribly graphic. I first read this in about 4th grade.
