Honestly curious, because I don't think many (most?) drivers check their rear/side view mirrors as often as they ought to.
|
I check the back mirror pretty regularly. The side mirrors when I am planning on switching lanes, turning, or passing.
|
| If you have good spatial awareness, you know where cars are all around you at all times. I only check my side mirrors when changing lanes. |
| All the time. Especially when I am stopping for pedestrians at crosswalks and stopping on yellow to red lights. Having been rear ended when I’ve been at a complete stop had made me a rear view mirror driver. |
| What is "all the time" or "pretty regularly" in terms of seconds or Mississippis? Or for many of you... minutes? |
| My eyes are constantly darting to my mirrors. But I feel like most people don’t do this. |
How about you, Op? |
|
Pretty often but probably not as much as I should. I do check my side mirrors, esp on the expressways. Some people drive pretty badly and aren’t very predictable so you shouldn’t assume awareness. You should check.
|
Rear view, about every 2 Mississippis. Side not as often, but, but probably every 5-10 seconds. |
Same - I’m regularly scanning. Maybe every few seconds, if I had to put a metric in? |
| ^^but also, the number of people who don’t adjust their side mirrors or know how to use them… scary. |
| There are so many people who say others "suddenly" tailgate them. This is impossible, if you're checking your mirrors as often as you should. |
| All the time, because I have an old car that doesn’t have the video screen or beeping alerts to tell me that a car is near mine. |
| Constantly. |

Men - all the time
Women - rarely |
