Are Buddhists socially conservative or liberal?

| I'm looking into the Washington DC Buddhist Vihara. I'm fairly socially conservative though. What positions would they take on social issues? (I know Buddhism is very large and diverse, but I wonder if there are any socially conservative Buddhists in the West) |

| What sorts of social issues? I can see some Buddhists being anti-abortion (though many are also pro-choice), but certainly not pro-gun rights or pro-death penalty. |
