Counselors at private school summer camps

Anonymous
If your school has a big summer program (think Madeira, Landon, Potomac, etc.), are most of the counselors teenagers from the school, or from a different school? How do the kids get those jobs? My DS will soon be old enough for that sort of experience, so I am wondering how one goes about applying. He goes to a private without a big summer program. I saw something on Potomac's website about a "counselor in training" program that you actually have to pay for. Any thoughts/advice?

My dd will be a jr. counselor this summer at one of those schools, which she also attends. I think they do have counselors from other schools although many attended the camp themselves when they were younger. I don't know all the details but I think in the early HS years they are unpaid and get paid (although not much) in the later HS years.

A CIT program is the norm. Kid takes it to get certified and some experience. Many jobs within a secondary school are unpaid. As they get older and into college, they tend to work at sleepaway camps which are very competitive to get into - and also get paid.
