[GLAX] UA 150 vs. American Select

Anonymous
2 DDs- #1 has a UA 150 offer and #2 got waitlisted. American Select tryouts occur after the 150 acceptance deadline. Accept/pay for UA 150 and still tryout for AS for #1? How quickly after the deadline do waitlisted players get notified? If you have both offers which one to take?

How many girls are on the waitlist usually?

All of them that aren't offered spots. Everyone is either offered or waitlisted.

I have a DD playing for a Top 20 D1 program. Neither the UA150 or AS played any part in her recruitment. So, from my perspective they are not needed and simply money grabs. AS is worse IMO because if your DD is not playing for the club managing the regional tryouts your DDs chances of making the team are slim. In our experience many of the better players in the area skip these events all together. It’s nice for the girls to talk about, but not much more. They will put a dent in your wallet though.

Wouldnt be surprised if this were the case but am curious how you have such knowledge?

CR, UA organizer, has admitted as much.

How do they choose the order of who gets called off of the waitlist?

They make it up as they go along. I could give a more complicated answer, but what I said is a good summation.

UA 150 is a complete money grab. It's also a mix-up of some really strong player for some positions and some really weak ones in other hard-to-fill positions. Look at past rosters.

Look into the girls who get into UA and the clubs they play for the vast majority 95% or more of them are from clubs run by 3step a conglomerate buying up girls' lax programs across the country. some of the clubs include 3D, NXT, and Storm to name a few and yes all of CR's interests such as Robinson sports, UA 150, and M&D also were sold to them as well last in the past couple of years. It's a money grab now and meant mainly to try and showcase the girls from their clubs. it really has become a joke in the past couple of years.

I wouldn't compare the two... two different events. I would compare American Select and the All America Tournament (formerly Under Armour - NOT affiliated with UA 150). They occur the same weekend at the end of July. So as far as UA150 vs AS, you could potentially do both if your DD now makes AS. UA150 has some different components to it than AS (Parisi testing, some training, etc). AS will have a couple practices and then just the games. Neither one is cheap. The cheapest would be the All America Tournament because you only pay for the tryout.

UA 150 is more comparable with First in Class/Best in Class event. They have slight differences, BiC has more of a high level training format similar to what you would see at a true prospect day on campus. UA 150 has a combine type feel, with games.

AS- is/was putting together the team(s) of high caliber players and playing a straight bracket style tournament with the end goal being the championship.

Lots of girls get in off waitlist for UA150. Tons of girls post their acceptance letter on instagram, put it on their resume and don't attend.

There is an order, but position group. They won't tell player, but sometimes will tell a club director where you stand.

And the club directors definitely weigh in on who they think should be in when asked... Certain clubs get more girls in obvioulsy.
