We just joined a pool, and I didn't have time to get a bikini wax before we went on saturday, so in a rush I shaved my bikini line. Now I am left with a line full of red bumps and soon-to-be ingrown hairs. Is there anything I need to do (other than buy a pair of board shorts to wear to the pool this saturday, since I really don't want to expose this mess to the public) to clear up the ingrown hairs, or will this resolve itself on its own? I plan to just let it grow out and then get a proper wax before I go on vacation, but in the meantime, I don't know how to deal with all bumps. Plus, it's kind of painful. Gah. Help!!

| Get a skirted bottom. |

Get the board shorts and wait for it to grow out. Then start all over again with a wax or just plain depilatory (Nair, etc.)
I like board shorts better anyway... no worries about thigh exposure=more fun. |
| Go to Elizabeth Arden and get their "Razor Burn" product. Its a clear liquid that rolls on and helps with the red bumps (in grown hairs) very very well. You may even be able to get it to go away by the weekend. Also, you can try an alpha hydroxy lotion but it wont work as well as the EA product.. |
OP here. Is the Razor Burn similar to "Tend Skin?" I have a bottle of Tend Skin that I've been using, but it hasn't really done anything to help. |
Ok, so it will grow out on it's own, I don't need to do anything about the ingrown hairs, is that what you're saying? I am such a novice at this. Normally I schedule a bikini wax right before we head to the beach for a week, and then I'm done for the year. This is the first year that we joined a pool. Board shorts were ordered yesterday from Athleta, for rush delivery. LOL! |
| They sell Bikini Zone at CVS - it is great for shaving that area - totally keeps the bumps and redness away. Its basically an alcohol cream that you apply. |

OK I hate to give out any of my secrets, I am that girl, but I have suffered from this problem for far too long and I feel for you. Get a prescription for benzamycin from your doc. It's an acne topical cream but for whatever reason it totally works on razor burn.
It works so good that DH uses it sometimes after shaving. But it is prescription and has benzoyl peroxide in it so keep this in mind. You should be good to go within 24 hrs. |

Use a washcloth to gently exfoliate. I've had ingrown hairs that get infected, very gross.
I'm sure it isn't good, but there have been times when I've sterilized a needle/pin and put a tiny hole in my skin so that I can get the ingrown hair out. |
I dont know - never heard of tend skin. does it sting a little? |
| Your skin is irritated. Don't do anything harsh to it. Use hydrocortisone cream several times a day and don't shave again until right before you go to the pool. Don't pick at it! |
