| Looking for some low-cost options for an interested, newbie 11-yr old boy to learn the sport...possibly even a Summer camp option. I'm in the Takoma Park/Silver Spring area. I came across the web site for the Hustle and Muscle Mat Club but it doesn't appear active (web site still says practices are postponed due to COVID). Thanks. |

At this point, you are getting toward the end of wrestling season so I don't know if it worth it now or if clubs are even accepting anyone new.
But, here are two clubs that are not too far: https://www.bccyouthwrestlingclub.com/ and https://wheatonwrestlingalliance.teamapp.com/?_webpage=v1 He also may be interested in Judo, which is grappling martial art(no striking): http://www.collegeparkjudo.org/ The Naval Academy hosts several summer wrestling camp options, including a 2 day(overnight) father/son camp: https://navysports.com/sports/2018/5/23/camps-navy-wrestling-camps-html.aspx Good luck and keep us posted on what you decide to do! |
PP is right. Wrestling practices began back in November. In fact, for most clubs there's only 3-4 weeks left in the season. I think my son's end of season tournament is in March 5th. So a month left. BUT, those camps PP listed above are great options to introduce him to the sport. And up 270 from you, I believe the UofMD wrestling squad is putting on a week long camp this summer at Urbana High School; a little far from Silver Spring, but getting instruction from D1 athletes could be exciting for your son |
