DC private school consultant?

I am moving to the DMV in July and would like to speak with someone about private schools that would be good fits for my rising 6th grader and rising 9th grader. Can someone give me a recommendation?

Unless your child has specific needs, you don't need a consultant. Once you narrow down to reasonable commute, religious or secular, single sex or coed, you'll have a small enough number to tour and/or apply and see where you get in.

if you live in the area, why do you need admission consultants?

makes sense only if you're out of town and need help understanding the different options. these consultants do not help move the needle

If you end up deciding for a Consultant, I would look for someone that has relationships with current admission directors and willing to speak on your behalf to them (after meeting your child).

I know from personal experience that most independent schools in this area are willing to do this very thing. If that surprises you, then there’s clearly a lot you don’t know about how the sausage is made.

They all do in our experience here in DC and in LA, where we also used a consultant.
Less work for admissions directors when consultants are doing a lot of their work on vetting the “standard” applicants and allows the directors to focus on public school and broader outreach.

Exactly, and I'll echo that they absolutely speak with the consultants. There is an implicit "deal" where the consultants to not promote unqualified students and in exchange, seem to have a bit of sway when they actually recommend someone.
