I usually buy 2-3 year-old used cars, but after running the numbers, it made no sense as it was cheaper to buy a new car
Maybe it's the end of the year but I was surprised. 2023 new car $41k after 7k off MSRP w/ 6% interest rate for 60 months 2020 car at carmax $41k and $43k w/ a 5.5% interest rate WEIRD |
| What car did you buy? |
| Insurance is higher I’d think. |
|
Weird. The used car index is in freefall right now. Yesterday Morgan Stanley came out thinking that used car prices could fall 20% by this time next year
|
| But were the two cars the same make and model? |
| I bought a new Hyundai Tucson for less than a used one in the lot |
| Yup I noticed the same thing. I got a new car, same model but different years for 3K less. No brainer. |
| I got a 2023 for under MSRP. Traded in my 2014 Prius for $14.5k. I only paid $22k for it. I drove that car for almost 9 years. It didn't even make sense to keep it seeing as I needed more space. |
| Well the car I want is impossible to get new without being on a months long waiting list AND paying above MSRP so we are looking at used models that cost more than MSRP new which is hard to swallow. |
| Lol,what $48k car is selling at a $7k discount right now? Nothing worth owning. |
Exactly. There is a reason OP didn't mention what type of car. |
$48k is half a car.
|
| There is a glut of bmws, Mercedes and volvos right now , the over ordered. |

Same here. First new car purchase and I’m
50. Bought the rav4 prime. Love it and getting about 700 miles per fill up. |
| I pay with cash, always. No interest for me. I’ll keep this in mind when shopping, though. I currently have a savings goal for a new or new-to-me car even though my current vehicle is great. |
