Amazon quality orthotic insoles

Anonymous
Looking for recommendations for orthotic insoles for my dad. He still likes to run but has arthritis in his big toe joints and his feet have flattened with age. He doesn't want (or think he needs) professional orthotics but I went on amazon and there are hundreds of options - mostly for PF. He needs more padding and support in the forefoot to keep the pressure off his big toe joint and some arch support.

Any suggestions?

Does he live in this area? The people at Potomac River Running are really good at getting people in the right sneakers and also will recommend inserts as well. https://potomacriverrunning.com/

Some drug stores (my local CVS had one) have a machine that will scan your feet and recommend what I think are a type of Dr. Scholls inserts.
I've had custom orthotics done with my podiatrist, and these work just as well for a fraction of the price.

Ah, yeah, these things...

I’d suggest going to a store or a podiatrist to get recommendations— then purchasing them from Amazon or Zappos. Different insoles do different things — so it might be good if he could get some knowledgeable recommendations.

My PT swears by Superfeet

Sorry but he needs custom orthotics. See a podiatrist and offer to pay as a present.

I have arthritis in my big toes and bought many kinds on Amazon before getting custom inserts. I’m pain free now.

I have had custom orthotics in the past, and I recently bought some orthotics through upstep.com. They send a foam mold that you step on to make an impression of your foot, and then they make an insole based on your returned mold. The price was more than foam inserts through amazon but way less than custom orthotics from a podiatrist.

If you want to just order through Amazon, try the Sole cork inserts. I find that foam insoles flatten out and quickly loss any benefits.

Just spend the money and get the superfeet green. don't order from amazon b/c they have so many counterfeits. go to a running store or dicks or something.

These are custom orthotics. This is how some podiatrists used to mold your foot. Now you see a lot using a scanning technique.
