Maryland Attorney General completes clergy abuse investigation of Archdiocese of Baltimore

In 2017 when our Baltimore documentary “The Keepers” was released, the Archdiocese of Baltimore [AOB] jeered at us with a PR slogan “fact or fiction”, claiming our story was fiction. Our survivors who filed a lawsuit in 1994 were profiled as mentally ill, unstable, imaging things. Our story helped motivate the Maryland Attorney General to invest in a criminal investigation into the AOB over the last 4 years. The report is complete, but cannot be released without a court order as includes church documents subpoenaed via a grand jury. This is news link which contains copy of motion with info that is public so far. I believe the report will prove an over 80 year history of hiding abuse and protecting abusers while sacrificing the children placed in their care. Sounds like it validates our story. Please stop donating to the Catholic Church until they stop hiding abuse and abusers. Give your money directly to charities other than the church, let them learn they can’t afford to do this any longer.

My take on this is that clergy without the ability to fight or earn money or have sex turn to behavior such as this to release energy they've subdued in these other ways by pretending they didn't have these needs. Not to make light of it at all, but it's so interesting that it's all over the world. There has to be a connection to the actual work.

Eugene Pratt, 57, a former principal, elementary school teacher and coach who taught at-risk youth in multiple Michigan public schools, was charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct in August. He is accused of sexually assaulting at least 15 boys and young adult men during his education career spanning several decades.

Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson, whose office is investigating Pratt, told ClickOnDetroit in August that sexual predators often put themselves in a supervisory position so that they have easy access to victims.

"When you see positions that he held that involve being a principal, school administrator, counselor, GED coordinator, and even after he taught, where he was arrested last week out of New Paths, as a driver, as a transport officer," Swanson said. "Individuals like Eugene Pratt put themselves in positions of authority over others in order to act on their prey and to find and identify vulnerable people."

Stephen Kenion, 56, who taught self-defense classes to Baltimore City Public School students, was arrested last month after being accused of impregnating a 14-year-old former student and having sexual relationships with multiple minors back to 2009, including an 8-year-old student. He’s been charged with perverted practices, second-degree rape, numerous counts of second-degree assault and various sex offenses, CBS News reported.

I agree. People choose jobs to be close to kids…then abuse them. Penalties and consequences should be much, much harsher for sex abuse of kids.

Beware of anyone who is alone with children. Not that a woman can’t sexually abuse a child, but hell, it’s usually a man. Why is that??

Increasingly, female teachers are being charged with sex crimes—crimes that sometimes involve their students and other times do not.

The latter was the case recently when a science teacher at a middle school in Springfield, VA, was arrested and charged with possession of child pornography. None of the material featured any of her current or former students, authorities said.

Police in Fairfax County reportedly had received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. That tip provided an IP address for someone in the county who possessed child pornography. This led police to the woman’s home, where she lived alone.

Police reportedly found videos and photos of child sexual abuse on the Snapchat of the woman, who is 28.

She now faces 2 counts of possession of child pornography. She also has been suspended from her job.

500 Female Teacher Sex Offenders - Female Teacher Sex Crime Cases
It wasn't that long ago that female on male sexual violence wouldn't have resulted in criminal charges at all.
Believe it or not, in some states in America the law is so biased against male victims that it doesn't even recognize female on male sexual assaults. Canadian law enforcement is getting better at charging female sex offenders and prosecuting them for what they are - criminals that should be teaching.

Education of police and having more female police officers has led to more sensitivity to claims that males are sexually assaulted and by females, according to some authorities on the subject of sexual abuse and assault.

There exists a clear and wide disparity between the sentencing of convicted female and male sex offenders.

Law enforcement has given women sex offenders a pass for decades. Now women sex offenders are being arrested and charged, and it’s not being swept under the rug.

Men are in fact the usual sex abusers of children. Beware.

As a Catholic, I appreciate the prior posts that demonstrate that this is not just a Catholic issue.

Re: Archdiocese of Baltimore - I think Lori is a POS. Old, white, male, irrelevant.

That said, I don't think it's low-level donors, your average person in the pew, withholding their contribution to the basket who will influence the direction of the Church; it's the major donors who have the ear of the Bishops and whose donations make a demonstrable financial impact. If you are interested in advocating for real change, you have to work on the major donors.

I am also Catholic, and I agree. I do think the Church in America is making progress. But it's inexcusably slow.

That’s not exactly what I meant. I mean they deny themselves a lot of what a man’s strength enables and then have to find another outlet for this inborn desire for power.

The Archdiocese of Baltimore has filed for bankruptcy protection, less than two days before a new state law takes effect allowing victims of child sexual abuse to sue institutions, no matter how long ago the abuse took place.

This happens a lot in the military though too and also people in power and the Amish. I think it’s more like they try to walk a respectful straight line in some way and can’t and so use this outlet because it’s not in the public view and there are few controls on them there.

There was an orthodox Jewish special about this topic and how the church did it prosecute crimes with just one witness so a lot of these crimes went unnoticed.

I appreciate that atheists and Jews are keeping this thread going and everybody else is ignoring it.
