For NVTBL, I understand BBCOR isn’t required until 15u, though it seems all tournaments require it at this age.
What are your kids swinging for regular season NVTBL games- BBCOR or a USSSA bat? Thanks. |
| If your 14 year old is going to be trying out for their high school team they should get used to BBCOR. Our team (not NVTBL) required BBCOR at 14U for this reason. |
| BBCOR because that's the HS standard and most travel players at 14u should be at least playing JV. Tournies seem to be going wood bat. |
| OP here. Thanks. My kid will be in 8th grade during 14u so no JV for him. Trying to decide if he needs an alloy bat in drop 5 for spring 13u or if it’s a waste because most may go to BBCOR in 14u. He swings a drop 5 in composite but his bat is close to cracking so trying to figure out what to buy for spring, if anything at all. |
| Get a used drop 5 and a more expensive BBCOR he can use in HS. Let the kid have fun one last season with a hot bat. There is plenty of time to use BBCCOR fall of 15u season. |
| Most 14u kids are in 8th grade. Use the most appropriate bat for their size, and expect they will transition to the bbcor in the next year. |

The general standard is -5 for 13U and BBCOR for 14U. That is generally what is required for tournaments.
I’d probably go with that whatever the league requirements may be- unless your DS is especially small and needs more of a transition period. |
