had Zinnias in the yard this year, will I need to buy more seeds to sprinkle next spring or do the seeds they drop survive the winter? TIA
I grow a lot of zinnas and always have some self-seed. But, they're not always in the spots that I want or they're too close together. Since zinnia seeds are really cheap and I want a jump on the growing season, I always start a bunch.
I get a few volunteers but they don't fully reseed. I usually save zinna seeds (let the flowers dry on the stalk. When they are completely brown and dry, clip them and store in a dry place). Direct sow from saved seeds has worked really well for me.
I wonder if it’s a zone thing. I’m in 4B and have never had them reseed. Birds seem to feed on them up here, too.
I’ve had it happen in the past but I don’t count on it. 2020 and 2021 I had some return. This past summer I didn’t have any.
