What is the meaning of life? Do you live within that meaning as you define it?

I'm on a work deadline, so of course I find myself contemplating the meaning of life instead. What do you think the point of all this is? Do you think you are doing what you are supposed to be doing, or do you feel like you are missing the mark somehow? If you feel you are missing the mark, what do you plan to do about it?

Posting this in religion as that's where it fits best, but I am not actually religious and would be interested in hearing how people approach this from other directions -- philosophical, psychological, practical. I have my answers but they are works in progress. Curious what others think about this. I will post mine in a bit when I finish my work.

The more we suffer, the more we live.

Hardship teaches one how to appreciate the little blessings in life.

Plus, hardship keeps us so busy, we don't have time to complain or to worry about non-essential problems.

There is no meaning. I'm looking forward to the end.

The meaning/purpose of life is to love and to be loved. I live within that meaning by treating everyone I encounter with kindness and by offering my help and by accepting kindness and help from others.

You assign it meaning. There is no objective one. and if there were that would be awful and boring.

To leave the earth better than when you arrived through interactions with the living beings you cross paths with be them human, animal/insect or plants, to the greatest extent possible. Give more than you take, physically, mentally and spiritually.

Everyone must find their own meaning. Mine is recognition of our humanity. Many of my life choices, including my job and where I choose to live, reflect that

I think this is a worthy goal but I think it is extremely rare the human who actually accomplish it. Simply by living the life of a typical American, you will take more than you give back. I am not sure it's possible to do what you suggest without renouncing capitalism, for instance.

Read my favorite book Man’s Search For Meaning .

The goal/meaning of life is to know and love God. To find him in everything (in interactions, in love, in suffering, in sacrifice) and thereby know him, so as to prepare ourselves and make ourselves worthy of eternal life with him and those who love him. Easier said than done, but that is what I believe.

I agree. In the end, love is all that matters.

We're born, and the meaning is to not leave negative marks on the world. Try to leave a trail of kindness. And then we die. The end.
